Have you ever had a time in your life where for whatever reason you are limited to clothing? I’m not talking about when you walk into your closet with hundreds of items and say “I have nothing to wear!”, I’m talking about being on a trip or in a similar situation where your wardrobe is limited.
That was me a few weeks ago house sitting; I had been out of my house for almost two weeks and didn’t do a single load of laundry. On the last day of house sitting, I had the most random pieces and could barely put together one decent outfit! Luckily, I happened to have a black dress and this blazer, so I threw it on along with some white leather converse (the only shoes that somewhat worked) and rolled out.
At first, I wasn’t entirely thrilled with what was on my body because I threw it on in such a hurry. But the more I went on with my day, the more I began to fall in love with this look! Not only did it take me a literal 5 minutes to put together, but it was comfortable and dressy in a way. Honestly, pairing the sneaker with this revolutionized my life.
When it comes to this outfit, I found three things that I think stood it apart from many others:
- The bright bag. When you have an entire outfit of dull colors, switch things up and add a statement color in any way you can. I like to do this with a bag because it’s not just on your face or your feet. For example, The color in of this bag is, in a way, all throughout my outfit whether it matches or not because the length of the purse (strap and all) goes down half of my body – aka the majority of what I’m wearing!
- The loud pattern. There’s not much you can do with a LBD other than pair it with a pair of shoes that make it stand out, or be simple and classic and keep it all black. I LOVE pairing loud patterns with a dull neutral color because it brings the dark color to life instantly.
- The choice of shoe. I genuinely believe the most significant things that can make or break an outfit are earrings and shoes. As I said in the case scenario explained earlier, I didn’t have a choice of what shoes to wear initially. But I love that I didn’t have an option because I’m not all that sure I would have chosen this shoe had there been other options available.
The Lord and anyone who sees me often KNOWS that I don’t dress up every day, but I do love to find the shoe, accessory, or clothing item my closet that will stand my outfit apart and make it unique when I dress up. I encourage you to step out of your comfort zone this week and try something new with your style that you may have been hesitant to test out in the past. You may have thought that I was kidding when I said this outfit revolutionized my life, but it opened my eyes to how I can be creative on a whole new level with my outfits.
Always remember, the only person limiting you is yourself!
